NEC David Ricardo

Course Description

This course focuses on preparing students for the NEC David Ricardo competition. NEC David Ricardo is an engaging and insightful course designed for 6th to 8th graders, focusing on the fundamental principles of economics through the lens of David Ricardo, a prominent classical economist. This course aims to introduce students to key economic concepts, theories, and real-world applications, fostering a deep understanding of how economies function and the impact of economic decisions on society.


Students will explore Ricardo's theories, such as comparative advantage and economic rent, and their relevance in today's global economy. Through interactive lessons, discussions, and projects, students will develop critical thinking and analytical skills, preparing them to understand and engage with economic issues.

Prerequisites

Students should have taken Intro Economics beforehand.

About the Instructor

RJ Yang

Dartmouth College

Mr. RJ Yang received high honors in both Computer Engineering and Economics from Dartmouth College, and went on to work at Bridgewater Associates as an investment logic engineer before joining Prestige STEM Academy full time. He is currently part of the Booth Scholars program and specialized in algorithms and mathematical finance.

RJ has been teaching with the Prestige STEM Academy team for the last 10 years, and is especially excited to help students learn how to think algorithmically. RJ now heads Prestige Tech, the Prestige STEM Academy technology and quantitative science department. RJ also teaches most of the classes within Prestige Tech himself, and develops curriculum for other math and science courses at Prestige STEM Academy.
