AP U.S. History

Course Description

AP United States History covers significant events, figures, developments, and processes from approximately 1491 to the present within nine historical periods. Students will apply the same skills and methods used by historians: analyzing primary and secondary historical sources, constructing historical arguments, establishing historical connections, and using reasoning involving comparison, causation, and the continuity and change over time.

This course also provides eight themes that students will explore throughout the curriculum to establish connections in the historical developments across different times and places: American and national identity; Work, exchange, and technology; Geography and environment; Migration and settlement; Politics and power; America's role in the world; American and regional culture; Social structures. This course aims to provide students with an introductory college-level course in U.S. history equivalent to two semesters of college study. This course is accredited with the California A-G course approval, aligning with the curriculum standards of the University of California system, and is widely recognized by the majority of American universities.
