AP Calculus AB
Course Description
AP Calculus AB is a college-level course designed to introduce calculus, focusing on the themes of differentiation and integration in calculus. It is roughly equivalent to the first-semester calculus course at a university. This course emphasizes students' understanding of calculus concepts and provides them with practical methods and applications. By using fundamental calculus concepts such as modeling change, approximation, limits, and function analysis, each lesson is structured as an integrated whole rather than a collection of unrelated topics. Students are required to construct arguments and prove conclusions using definitions and theorems.
This course employs multiple modes of representation to illustrate calculus, including graphs, numerical methods, analysis, and language. By exploring the connections between these forms of representation, students deepen their understanding of essential concepts, definitions, formulas, and theorems in calculus, especially related to limits. This course is accredited with the California A-G course approval, aligning with the curriculum standards of the University of California system, and is widely recognized by the majority of American universities.
